  Powerboat System Setup

  Setup is Simple:

To operate the Race Time automated race timing and scoring system for Powerboats and Jet Skis, each competitor attaches a transmitter and small spike antenna to his boat. The T&S person then connects the shoreside antenna, receiver, range control, and a computer and printer, and runs the T&S software (see diagram below). And off you go!

The small transmitters, each with a unique code, are attached to the inside of each boat using industrial Velcro. The small spike antenna is the only thing visable from the outside. The transmitters run on external 12 volts through a waterproof power cord. Portable units are also available and are used by jet skis and outboard powered boats that have no 12 volt power supply. The number of unique codes is virtually unlimited, allowing competitors from other series using the dBcom system to take part in your events!

Our easy to use software packages handle all race functions such as qualify, lap time and position info. You can import entrants from your data base or enter them manually before the event and export results to your website after. The dBcom operator can check the pictures from the video camera as competitors cross the start line and immediately take a lap away from any "gun jumpers" through the easy click of a button! Competitors see their lap times and results within minutes of the end of the race.

Please see further details on use of the system and it's components on our Hardware and Software pages.

Basic System Setup

The system is typically set up near the start/finish line, with the shoreside antenna near the water.
Interconnection is shown below, with the antenna connected to the RX1C receiver, and the receiver connected to the T&S PC.
The receiver is powered from the 120 volt AC (or 240 volt AC) to 12 volt DC (@ 500 mA or more) wall cube
(or directly from a 12 volt DC source).

Our dBcom Marine system is currently in use by the world class Champboat Series.

Laurie Allen, APBA Chief Timing and Scoring Official for the Champboat events says, "I am very impressed and happy with the system; at how fast qualifying is taken care of and also with how it combines everything at the end for the final results. It takes away the "human error" and it really makes our job in the judges stand easier." In the business of timing and scoring for all types of racing for years, Mike Chatfiled, operator for the system for the Champboat series says, "The system works great! It's easy to set up and use, and the drivers love coming down to get their individual lap times after the races."
